2023 Honda CR-V launched in Malaysia – 6th-gen SUV, four variants, 1.5L turbo and 2.0L hybrid, from RM158k

Honda Malaysia has officially launched the 2024 Honda CR-V, marking the debut of the sixth-generation SUV in the local market. The new CR-V comes in four variant grades, with three featuring turbocharged petrol engines and the fourth being a hybrid model.

The pricing for the variants (on-the-road, without insurance) is as follows:

  • Honda CR-V 1.5L Turbo S – RM159,900
  • Honda CR-V 1.5L Turbo E – RM169,900
  • Honda CR-V 1.5L Turbo V AWD – RM181,900

To commemorate 20 years of CKD production in Malaysia, the base S variant will be initially priced at RM157,900 for the first 750 units.

The CR-V lineup omits the R20 2.0L i-VTEC naturally-aspirated engine, with the Malaysian range consisting of three turbocharged petrol variants and one hybrid. The pricing for the hybrid CR-V 2.0L e:HEV RS will be announced in early 2024.

All three petrol variants (1.5L S, 1.5L E, 1.5L V AWD) feature the 1.5L VTEC turbo engine with unchanged output figures of 193 PS (190 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 243 Nm from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm. The base S variant accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 9.7 seconds, the E variant in 9.8 seconds, and the V AWD variant in 10.4 seconds.

The hybrid model, powered by the Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) system, combines a 2.0L naturally-aspirated Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The engine produces 148 PS (146 hp) at 6,100 rpm and 190 Nm at 4,500 rpm, while the electric motor delivers 184 PS (181 hp, or 135 kW) at 5,000 to 8,000 rpm and 335 Nm from zero to 2,000 rpm. The hybrid variant achieves 0-100 km/h in 9.0 seconds with a top speed of 187 km/h.

In terms of size, the new CR-V measures 4,691 mm in length, 1,866 mm in width, and 1,681 mm in height, with a 40 mm longer wheelbase of 2,700 mm. The design features a flatter-looking nose, narrow light assemblies, and a strong shoulder line, providing a sleek and contemporary appearance, reminiscent of the HR-V.

Externally, the CR-V is equipped with LED auto headlights, LED daytime running lights, front LED sequential turn signals, and LED rear combination lights across all variants. The interior features a modernized dashboard design, resembling that of the Civic FE, with a clean fascia, a three-spoke steering wheel, and a freestanding infotainment touchscreen.

Standard features include remote engine start, walk-away auto lock function, dual-zone air-conditioning with rear AC vents, cruise control, and a 7.0-inch TFT semi-digital instrument display on petrol variants, while the hybrid RS variant features a 10.25-inch full digital instrument display.

Safety features, including Honda Sensing, are standard across all variants, with improvements to the suite of safety and driver assistance systems. LaneWatch side camera, Honda Connect telematics system, and various exterior color options, including a new Canyon River Blue Metallic, are also available.

The CR-V offers a range of wheel options, with 17-inch five double-spoke alloy wheels on the base S variant, 18-inch versions on the E and V AWD variants, and gloss black 18-inch alloy wheels on the e:HEV RS.

Buyers can further customize their CR-V with a Modulo bodykit package and various accessory packages. With its comprehensive features, advanced safety technologies, and engine options catering to diverse preferences, the 2024 Honda CR-V stands out as a competitive and well-rounded SUV in the Malaysian market.
